“[T]he USCG Cutter VALIANT continued to make efforts to disembark BALUCHI using their small boat,” the grievance notes. “Nonetheless, BALUCHI displayed two knives and threatened to harm himself if officers boarded the Vessel. Furthermore, BALUCHI threatened to blow himself up, together with the Vessel.”
The Coast Guardsmen concerned deemed the menace to be credible, as Baluchi was holding wires. Finally, he reneged and admitted the menace was fabricated. It wasn’t till Aug. 29 — and with the assistance of an extra cutter — that Baluchi was safely faraway from the vessel.
The incident doesn’t mark Baluchi’s first try at a trans-Atlantic hamster wheel journey. In accordance with the legal grievance, he tried the voyage in 2014, ‘16 and ‘21.
Because of the incident, Baluchi has been charged with obstruction of boarding and violation of the captain of the port order.
Baluchi’s bond was set at $250,000.
